| Write a letter to either the
president of the LIRR or to the chairman of the MTA. Their names,
addresses, and a sample letter follow. To be most effective please all
your own personal thoughts to make the letter your own. Ms. Helena E. Williams President, LIRR Jamaica Station Jamaica, NY 11435-54380 Jay H. Walder Chairman and Chief Executive Officer MTA 347 Madison Avenue New York, NY 10017-3739 As a North Fork resident, I wish to protest the threatened practical elimination of North Fork rail service. We are being "taxed without tracks." This MTA plan must be reversed, and in fact rail service must be improved. In light of the heavy and recently increased taxes which we pay for MTA "services", it is absolutely unbelievable that the LIRR has chosen this counter intuitive route. Just this past fall the Supervisors of Riverhead and Southold, along with the Mayor of Greenport, submitted a letter to LIRR President Helena Williams proposing specific rail schedule adjustments which would greatly improve North Fork service without major cost increases. The MTA/LIRR response has been elimination. |
